In their Arts Fortnight, 4DA threw themselves into exploring and expressing everything that makes them unique and special. Their teamwork was wonderful throughout as they choreographed and perfected their fantastic Waving Flag performance featuring their home flags. Reflecting on their strengths and uniqueness, they collaborated to create a beautiful class poem from which they created a stunning art canvas. Find this displayed proudly outside their classroom.

In the studio, they began by practising drawing their own self portrait in pencil using the correct proportions and adding details, recapping their learning from Year 3. Building on this, they then asked What a portrait can say about us and chose to include their own interests within a collage design. First they designed a print template to encapsulate their chosen motifs, then etched this onto a polystyrene tile. They learned the techniques of monoprinting using rollers and ink to create beautiful prints. Sketching a portrait template they then collaged with their prints to create a unique portrait and added words that represented their own personality and qualities.

4DA were also inspired by how the artist Jean-Michel Basquiat represented identify through his portraits and figures. Exploring the graffiti-like features and skeletal figures of his art, they created their own kennings on the theme of Life Don’t Frighten Me and created portraits to illustrate these.
